MEME: DAY 4

It's Day 4 of this wonderful meme. Since it was my day off work I think I went a little overboard and took too many photos, but here is my post. I did trim some out!

MOVIE REVIEW AND ACTOR PICSPAM

I find that while studying the Spanish language, I like to pop the odd Spanish film into the DVD player and try to follow the conversations without turning on the English subtitles. My local Blockbuster has a section of foreign films with quite a few Spanish-language ones. Recently I watched a movie from Spain called "Welcome Home" ("Bienvenido a Casa" in Spanish). It's a delightful adult comedy about a young man smothered by his mother, leaving home to start work as a photographer for a newsmagazine in Madrid. His coworkers are insane, he gets his girlfriend pregnant, and promptly resumes a relationship with an old girlfriend from school whom he discovers is working in a strip-peep-club. It only gets better. There is also a full-frontal nude scene of the main actor. Very, very, pretty.

Anyway, this post is an excuse for me to show off the very hot Spanish actor, whom none of you have probably heard of. After Googling him, I discovered that he has been in one other movie I could find, and a very popular TV series in Spain called "Los Serrano". His name is a bit of a mouthful, but you can click below to see him under the cut.

BIG SNOWSTORM AT MY HOUSE PICSPAM

Last Wednesday it began to snow and didn't stop until Thursday morning. I took these pics on Wednesday in late morning, before it got really bad. It was my day off but I was suffering from a head cold as well, so I didn't venture too far outdoors. These photos are looking outside from my front door and also the back door.

XMAS PRESSIES

Since a few others on my flist are doing this, I thought I would as well. Here are some pics of Sean and my Christmas present haul this year.

Re: Sean. As you know, we discovered last year that he is autistic. Not knowing what to expect, we enrolled him in school this year. At the time we were still on several waiting lists for treatment and for help from various agencies. However, during the summer Sean had the benefit of occupational therapy which helped him to improve his small muscle control. He also had his eyes checked. As a result he now wears glasses to correct his farsightedness and an in-turning left eye. And he is doing tremendously well at school. He is a smart little boy who loves learning his letters and numbers, listening to stories, music, and participating in painting. His teacher told me just before Christmas that Sean is working at the level of the other children in his class. That made me over-the-moon happy. What better Christmas present could any Mom have?

VACATION POST: COIMBRA

At first I was going to combine a post on Coimbra and Conimbriga, but had too many pics -- about 30 for each place, so I will break those visits into two parts.

We reached Coimbra late on Thursday, September 6th, so decided to book into a hotel right away. Linda had brought her "Lonely Planet" guide with her, and out of the hotels they listed we chose one called the "Hotel Oslo". Lonely Planet is good for picking some quirky, non-touristy places in which to sleep and eat. For the most part we enjoyed staying in them.

FROM LISBON TO TORRES VEDRAS, OBIDOS AND COIMBRA

All of the above places were mentioned in the Sharpe novels. Torres Vedras has some castle ruins that we checked out on foot. It is an extremely hilly place, so we did a lot of climbing that day. Rufena had told us to go to Sintra instead of Torres Vedras. She said in Torres Vedras we'd have to watch our purses. She was wrong. The people couldn't have been nicer or more charming.
